Some pupils are not ready to commit to a full academic year but want more than weekly extra tuition can provide. Single terms at Newbury Study Hall offer a middle option: ten weeks of full-time study in one or more A-level or GCSE subjects, with the option to continue, extend or step back at the end.
Who it suits
- Pupils between sixth forms — for example, having left one and considering another
- Pupils who have fallen substantially behind in a particular subject and need concentrated work over a term to catch up before mock or final exams
- Pupils trying out the Newbury Study Hall environment before committing to a full academic year
- Pupils preparing for a Christmas or summer resit
How it works
- One term is ten weeks
- Five hours of tuition per subject per week
- Pupils may study one, two or three subjects
- Pupils may join at the start of any term (autumn, spring, summer)
Cost is calculated at £40 per hour. A single-subject term is therefore £2,000; a three-subject term is £6,000.
Continuing afterwards
At the end of a single term, pupils can:
- Continue into a further single term
- Convert into a full academic year programme
- Step down to weekly after-school or Saturday tuition
- Stop
There is no obligation to continue beyond the term enrolled.
